FED: Obesity to be treated like smoking to beat cancer

Cancer experts want a hard-hitting approach to obesity .. similar to the anti-tobacco
campaign .. to stop the fat epidemic driving up breast and bowel cancer rates.

The Cancer Council Australia says obesity's already a well-known to trigger type two
diabetes .. hypertension .. heart disease and stroke.

But the council says there's fast-growing evidence it's also contributing to Australia's
growing cancer rates.

Chief executive .. Professor IAN OLVER .. says we need to recognise this now and act
with tough measures to turn it around.

A recent review's found Australia has overtaken the US as the fattest nation in the
world .. with 26 per cent of adults now obese.

The call for tough anti-obesity measures is in an editorial .. in the Medical Journal
of Australia.
